Mat runs a superb folk workshop at our Spring Festivals where he demonstrates many types of harmonicas and flutes, and showes the importance of matching the harmonica to the type of music to be played.

He took up the harmonica at the age of 16, and when he left Manchester University he took up music as a career. He won the Burnley Blues-harp contest in 1992 and the following year he was All-Britain Fleadh champion (harmonica section).

Mat now lives and teachers harmonica in Chorlton, Manchester. Most of his students learn diatonic/blues harmonica. You can contact him at 01618810071.

Mat runs a Sunday afternoon Shindig every three months - see the diary page for dates.

He has organised an informal, open event where players of all levels of ability and all styles of playing can meet, exchange information and learn more about the harmonica. Here is a chance to meet like minded people and maybe make this into a regular event.

Mat will be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate techniques used in blues, jazz, and Irish music. Everyone who wants to will get the chance to get up and play with other musicians, and try the amps and mikes provided. Trade stalls are being organised.

When- The afternoon session will run from about 1:30pm on the Sunday afternoon until about 4:30pm.

Where - Upstairs at "The Southern", Nell Lane, Chorlton, Manchester.

The pub is at the intersection of Nell Lane and Mauldeth Road. Inside the triangle created by the A6010, A5145, and A5103. Click here for a map
