The 2018 Chromatic Weekend programme will have something for chromatic harmonica players of all abilities and tastes. There are several workshops aimed at beginners and, of course, many for more advanced players. Our excellent workshop leaders use jazz, classical, folk and popular music to facilitate harmonica learning. Confirmed workshop facilitators include Adam Glasser, Gerry Ezard, Shima Kobayashi, John Cook, Chris Collis and more.
Thank you for your patience!! The final Workshop schedule will be some weeks away but click the link for last year's schedule to get the idea.
As usual, music and backing tracks will be provided in advance for a range of abilities. This will be distributed electronically in March 2018 to give ample time for practice before the event itself. Please state at the time of booking if you don't have access to email.
Registration and coffee is at 9.00am on Saturday and this is followed by the welcome meeting at 9.30am. Room check-in is from 2.00pm but there is secure storage for luggage. The weekend ends on Sunday, following a debrief and refreshments, at around 4.00pm.
There are four workshop sessions on Saturday, each of 1¼ hour duration, interspersed with refreshment breaks and lunch. The optional Saturday evening meal is at 6.00pm in the restaurant. There are two further 1¼ hour duration workshop sessions on Sunday morning.
A highlight of the weekend is the Saturday evening tutor's concert. During the first part of the evening there is also an opportunity for some pre-arranged group and individual performances supported by the band.
On Sunday afternoon there is an informal concert in which all delegates are encouraged to play in a supportive environment. Time constraints mean that each performance is limited to around 4 minutes.
Following the success of previous year's auctions, we will be inviting companies to contribute harmonica-related items to raise funds to support the event. You are welcome to contribute items to the charity auction.
Places are limited so don't delay, especially if you would like on-site accommodation. Rooms reserved for course participants will also be open to the public from 1st March onwards.
The basic weekend package includes Saturday and Sunday workshops, Saturday evening concert and Sunday informal performances. A sandwich buffet is included on both days but the Saturday evening two-course meal is an optional extra. Food can be ordered from the bar on Friday night between 6:00pm and 9:00pm - the bar remains open until midnight. Single or double en-suite rooms can be booked for Friday and/or Saturday and Sunday nights and includes full English breakfast.
Why not take advantage of our special discounted rate for non-playing partners? As well as listening to the concert and informal performances, they can enjoy the pretty gardens, venture into the Lickey Hills, play a round of golf adjacent to the hotel, or take the train into Birmingham and visit some cultural sites!
